I didn't believe...

Really, I didn’t.  In fact I mocked the weather forcast.  Greg said, “look it’s says it’s going to snow.”

I said.  “Ya right.”  Whatever.

Yesterday morning, I was woken up my my dear hubby at 6:30 am.  Ya, you read that right.  I don’t get up at 6:30.  Ever.  Try between 8 and 9.  It did snow and it was sticking to the cars.  So I had to take pictures to prove to you it snowed right?  (I live in South East Louisiana.  It just doesn’t snow here, or so I thought.)

By 7am our power was out.  Knocked out my a tree limb across the street.

By 10 am, the house and property looked like this:

Pretty right?  ya, I thought so too.  Except I was freezing!  I spent all day wrapped up in bed under the blankets.  Having no heat sucks.  It finally came back on at 11 pm last night.  Thank fate.

So we still have snow and it looks like this today:

That last picture is our neighbors house.  Hers is still pretty.

Happy Holidays! Taking care of Business.

Long time no post.  Sorry about that.  I don’t even have a great excuse.  A few house keeping things.  99 cent auctions are on hold for now.  To be perfectly honest I just can’t afford to offer them at this time.   I am hoping to do something else like 9.99 auctions starting in January.

Speaking of the business front of things, I have something new for you to check out.  A blurb from Art Fire’s artisan stimulus package:

We want to help artists. That means putting our money where our mouth is and stepping up in these tough economic times. For the next 5,000 verified artists who sign up as verified artisans on artfire.com we’ll lock in your membership at just US $7.00/month for life.
Register on ArtFire.com

So, yep, I signed up.  Artfire.  Only $7 a month for life and no final value fees?  Hey it is worth a shot.  So far I have only gotten one listing set up there.  I will be listing new stuff in my shop, just like Etsy daily.   I am sad to say I have finally thrown in the towel on Justbeads.  I tried it for about 18 months, but the volume over there just wasn’t making the cut.  Good luck to them, I hope they make the changes they have been talking about.  It’s just time for me to move on.

I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season!  I haven’t even started making or buying any thing on my gift list.  Bad me!  I did set up my little Christmas tree though.  I’ll get a pic soon.

When Girlfriends get together, magic happens.

This last weekend I took a last minute trip to Tennessee to visit with some of my bead making girlfriends.  Kaye, Susan, Angie, Vern, Fay, and Marte.

The very best part of all of us getting together is the fun and laughter.  Of course we all get no sleep what-so-ever, but a little sleep deprivation is a small price to pay for all the fun.  Mostly we just ate, drank, and torched.  Everyone shares techniques and challenges everyone else to try new things or to just torch and have a good time.

I have been in busy production mode for a good three months or so, so when I walked in the studio, I asked the girls, what should I make?  Then Susan pipes up with “I dreamt you turned your fairies into Queens”.  She had all kinds of ideas including Mary Queen of Scots-holding her head in her arms after being beheaded.  I’ll have to do something thinking on that one, but sounds fun!

So I made a queen.  The Queen Red Bitch to be exact and her princesses.  Angie thinks she is queen and loves red.  Don’t worry she named herself the Queen Bitch.  I also made a few others, but don’t have decent picture of them yet, as all the princess and the queens left with someone else other than me last weekend.  All the girls deserve a queen or princess of there very own, now don’t they?

So I came home and made the Christmas Queen.  More Queens and Princesses are coming, and maybe even a King, but I need to get caught up on orders, which will be very very soon, before I can play with my Royal Family.  The Christmas Queen in listed on etsy at a great price (her cape flashed uneven and is transparent and opaque).

This is why I love girlfriend time.  Magic always happens.

On Vacation!

As of right now, I am on vacation until Nov 4th!  I’m headed home to California to see the parent figures, siblings, and old friends for 10 days.  I know I’ve been quiet a while, but I have had my head buried trying to get caught up, so I could actually get on the plane.

I may blog about what I am up to while I am away.  Have a great one.

P.s….all new orders and auctions will be shipped on Nov 4th.  All items paid up through right now are already shipped.

A Brand New Room!

This last week the guest room got a make over.  We are calling it the guest room, but really it is MY room.  I am thinking of moving in there.  Poor Greg, he’ll never see me anymore.

So here is the before picture (and let me just say, I Hated this room.  Really.  Couldn’t stand it.  Never went in it.  I think I was actually a little afraid of it.  And the indoor outdoor carpet the previous owners put in had stains and smelled Bad.  You get the picture.  I HATED this room.)

Yes, the room is a bowling alley.  It’s something like 6 feet wide and 28 feet long.  It use to be the back porch in a previous life.  I think the previous owners used it as an office, judging by the insane amount of cable and electrical outlets it had.  And the florescent six feet long shop lights.  ICK!

Okay, so this is the transformation:

Greg built the cozy nook and put in the carpet and I painted every square inch of the room.  It took me three straight days and man o man, was I tired when I was done.  I don’t mind painting one bit, but all that raw wood just sucked up the paint and it took forever.

But I am very pleased, as is my dog Disney.  She thinks it is the best room in the house.  She just likes the carpet.  The rest of the house is hardwood floors.  She’s slips around a lot on them.  She LOVES carpet.  So it’s my retreat/reading room now and clearly my favorite place in the house.  My favorite room use to be my office.  A very soothing sage green room, complete with my desk top computer.  Sorry office, you’ve been upstaged.  :-)
